Lessons

"Then we began to ride. My soul smoothed itself out, a long-cramped scroll freshening and fluttering in the wind." (Poet Robert Browning)

"Operating an advertising agency for 20 years has taught me to see the uniqueness in businesses. What I see in your place is an openness that allows riders the freedom to experiment and find their own way. This is very rare ...and refreshing."- Barb

"You have a really honest, healthy, and well-run business. If there is anything I can do to contribute, please let me know."- Patty S., parent of TMEC riding student

Training

Although lessons and training are not a requirement to board at TMEC, they are offered in Horsemanship, Hunt-Seat Equitation, English Pleasure, Hunters, Jumpers, Dressage, Western Pleasure, and Trail. Our mobile trainers are available by appointment, offering beginner through advanced instruction and training for you and your horse.

We specialize in starting young horses and re-training older horses with a "back to basics" approach. Trust and boundaries are established through the process of foundational groundwork, sacking out, join-up, ponying, long-lining, lunging with a rider, to finishing under saddle. Our goal is to achieve the right match between horse, rider, and trainer. Boarders are welcome to bring their own insured trainer with management approval.

Customize your experience

Custom training programs are developed through close observation of the horse and clear communication between the owner, trainer, and veterinarian. Prior to the start of any training program, we recommend a comprehensive veterinary and chiropractic exam to evaluate and improve physical & mental readiness, including farrier work with proper hoof angles, dentistry, iron levels, thyroid, blood glucose, mineral levels, and structural alignment.

Inappropriate behavior or a lack of focus is often due to nutritional imbalances, too much high energy feed such as alfalfa and/or sweet feed, allergies, pain, or discomfort. Discovering and correcting any health issues prior to embarking upon a training program can mean all the difference in the horse's ability to work and learn. Dr. Bari Boersma, DVM, DC, and Dr. Don Moore, DC, are available to TMEC clients, as well as other veterinarians, chiropractors, acupuncturists, and various types of health practitioners.
